About

Theraworks is a private therapy practice with a holistic approach to mental health treatment. We pull from expertise in psychotherapy, nutrition, and fitness to provide a comprehensive wellness experience for individuals and families in and around Charleston, South Carolina.

Cara Mazurek, LISW-CP
Theraworks founder + therapist

I founded Theraworks in 2021 as a way to bring holistic psychotherapy to teens, women, and families in the Charleston, South Carolina, area. In addition to psychotherapy, I am trained in nutrition and group fitness instruction, and I firmly believe that each person’s body and mind are beautifully connected. Tapping into that principle — as well as a variety of  therapy treatments modalities — I help individuals and families process emotions and transform their lives.

Theraworks is a holistic psychotherapy practice.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by wellness culture, you’re not alone. From trending workouts and diet fads to supplements, meditation, cryotherapy, and more, the narrative around how to be healthy is ever-changing — and almost never focused on you and your individual needs.

I am a certified holistic nutritionist (CHN) through American Fitness Professionals and Associates, and a group fitness instructor (and avid practitioner) of barre. I know both firsthand and through working with my clients that movement and diet have significant impacts on mental health, so founded Theraworks as a place to provide the most integrated, impactful, and individual holistic mental health care that I can.

I provide my clients with nutrition education, guidance on eating habits and movement routines that can support their mental health, and additional holistic care as requested. I’m here to help you tune out the noise and get grounded in YOUR needs.

I specialize in providing:

THERAPY FOR TEENS (AGE 15-19):

My teen clients are typically high-achieving students under a lot of stress. They have parents who care about their well being and are supportive of mental health care. Many are finding a place to process previous trauma like loss of a loved one, sexual abuse, or major family crises. Together we can work through:

  • Anxiety

  • Perfectionism

  • Social + relationship issues

  • Soul searching

  • Disordered eating

  • Pressures of college

  • Difficulty setting boundaries

  • Establishing healthy lifestyle habits

  • Grief

THERAPY FOR YOUNG WOMEN

Many women in their 20s and 30s are feeling a little lost about where they want to go next in life. There is so much change and increased responsibility at this stage in life, and the holistic therapy I offer helps these women heal from the past, tap into their inner wisdom in the present, and set themselves up for success in the future. Together, we will work through:

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Disordered eating

  • Low self-esteem

  • Life transition issues

  • Relationship issues

  • Chronic indecision

  • Healing from trauma

THERAPY FOR FAMILIES:

I have a decade of experience providing whole-family psychotherapy and have seen firsthand the impact of working together. My family therapy clients typically include parent-teen pairs who are looking to improve the dynamics of their home — perhaps you’re a mom who’s tried everything, but still feel distant or like you’re on a different planet than your child rather than under the same roof. Together we can work on:

  • Communication issues

  • Boundary setting

  • Developing cohesive expectations

  • Conflict

  • Attachment issues (including adoption or foster child dynamics)

A little more about me:

In middle school, I participated in a peer mentoring program in which I worked closely with the school counselor, underwent conflict-resolution training, and got to help students resolve conflicts and issues. I loved it, and have been on a mission to help others through therapy ever since. I moved to South Carolina from Virginia in 2017 for graduate school (go Gamecocks!) and settled into life in Charleston in 2020. When I’m not at the office, you can catch me taking or teaching barre, cooking, sipping coffee, or traveling.

CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) from James Madison University

Treatment modalities I’m trained in:

  • This is the foundation of Theraworks’ approach to psychotherapy. You are the captain of your ship and we are just the sail helping you get to your destination. Your autonomy and choice is essential in feeling safe and empowered in therapy.

  • IFS treatment meets you where you are and works through introspective interventions to heal issues hurting you and your family.

  • When you are struggling with unhelpful thinking patterns, CBT can help create new pathways in your brain to change your perspective. Changing your thoughts then changes your feelings and behavior.

  • This treatment approach focuses on helping you regulate your emotions, set healthy boundaries, build relationships skills, tolerate distress, and be more mindful. (Who wouldn't benefit from these things?!)

  • Everyone’s been through some form of stress or trauma that has shaped their life. I keep this lens on at all times, because many people enter therapy not even realizing the trauma work that they would benefit from.

  • As a fitness instructor and certified holistic nutritionist, I take a well rounded look at my clients’ lifestyle. I can help you build healthy habits in various areas of your life to support your mental health care and feel results faster. This lens is really helpful for clients struggling with self-image issues and unhealthy relationships with food and/or exercise.

My therapy style:

Beyond the modalities comes my personality and therapeutic style. I bring myself to my sessions, meaning I am not a blank wall to talk to. I will be warm, authentic, and human. And I welcome all parts of you in the therapy room — your humor, doubts, and emotional ups and downs. To find the change we long for, we have to explore the parts of us where we hold shame, embarrassment, and hurt. I will meet that vulnerability without judgment. I am your accountability partner to help you be the active agent of change in your life and your biggest cheerleader as you make those daring steps.

My mission is to unlock wellness, empowerment, and transformation for the you today — and for the you that is yet to be found.

Change is possible.

It’s intimidating to ask for help and starting therapy can bring out many anxious feelings. If you’re feeling that right now, know that it’s a completely normal part of the process.

If you have any questions — or are ready to take the next step — schedule a free discovery call. We will chat more about the process, and I can answer any questions you may have. Email me at cara@theraworks.llc or click below to get started. I look forward to meeting you!
